23rd BMMC Congress, Antalya (2018)

23rd BMMC Congress was held between 11th and 14th May 2018 in Antalya, Turkey. The main topic of the Congress was “Battlefield Medical Support”. Two hundred and twenty-six (226) participants from six member countries attended the Congress. A total number of three hundred and thirty-five (335) scientific papers – one hundred and seventy one (171) oral, one hundred and sixty four (164) poster presentations – were presented. The scientific level of the Congress was appreciated as very high. Greece participated with fifty eight (58) papers, of which twenty eight (28) were oral and thirty (30) poster presentations. The Greek delegates were twenty one (21) Officers and six (6) students.

One oral presentation from each country was nominated for the “Best Military Medical Oral Presentation Award” and evaluated in a dedicated session. The Best Military Medical Paper Award was presented to the Romanian nominee.

Turkish National Board hosted the 8th Annual Meeting of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services of BMMC countries. The main topic of the meeting was “Current Status of Cooperation between Military and Civilian Health Institutions in the context of Military Health Services”. The Chiefs of delegations agreed upon bilateral benefits of military and civil cooperation as very important in each and among BMMC member countries.The 8th BMMC Student Meeting was held in the framework of the Congress on the 13th of May. It was considered very successful and attracted a big audience.

One representative from Azerbaijan Armed Forces has been invited by Turkish National Boardand participated in the 23rd BMMC Congress as an observer.

During the Closing Ceremony, the Convey of Insignia from Turkish National Board to Albanian National Boardtook place and the President of Albanian National Boardtook the Presidency of BMMC. Albanian National Board announced that they will take the responsibility of organizing the 24th BMMC Congress in Tiranain the first half of 2019.

22nd BMMC Congress, Belgrade (2017)

22nd BMMC Congress was held between 25th and 28th September 2017 in Belgrade, Serbia. The main topic of the Congress was “Balkan Military Medicine – Current Approaches”. Two hundred and six (206) participants from six member countries attended the Congress. A total number of two hundred and eighty-nine (289) scientific papers – one hundred and fifty-nine (159) oral, one hundred and thirty (130) poster presentations – were presented. Greece participated with 81 papers, of which 39 were oral and 42 poster presentations. The Greek delegates were 34 Officers and four students.

Serbian National Board hosted the 7th Annual Meeting of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services of BMMC countries. The main topic of the meeting was “Specialists’ Scientific Exchange Program αmong BMMC Members”. The Chiefs of delegations agreed upon benefits of creating a program for exchanging medical personnel and students among BMMC member countries. The 7th BMMC Student Meeting was held in the framework of the Congress on the 27th of September followed by Nurses’ Session. Both sessions were successful and attended by many delegates. 

Four roundtables were organized during the scientific program, with the following topics: «Transplantation of solid organs and stem cells», «Up-to-date in treatment of acute and chronic wounds», «Military Medicine in Peacekeeping Operations – exchange of experiences» and «Modern Digital Technologies in Military Medicine».

21st BMMC Congress, Bucharest (2016)

21st BMMC Congress was held in Bucharest, Romania from 31st May until 03th of June 2016. The main topic of the Congress was “Balkan Military Medicine – Future Challenges”. Three hundred and thirty eight (338) participants from five member countries of BMMC (Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Turkey) attended the Congress.

Romanian National Board hosted the 6th Annual Meeting of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services of BMMC countries. The main topic of the meeting was “Current Challenges of Military Medicine in our actual geostrategic context”. The 6th BMMC Student Meeting was held in the framework of the Congress on 1st June followed by Nurses’ Session. Both were considered very successful and attracted a large audience.

20th BMMC Congress, Thessaloniki (2015)

20th BMMC Congress was held in Thessaloniki, Greece between 08 and 11 June 2015. The main topic of the congress was: “20 years of BMMC. Past, Present, Future”.
One hundred and ninety four (194) participants from six member countries participated. In particular there were eleven (11) participants from Albania, thirty four (34) from Bulgaria, fifty two (52) from Greece, fourteen (14) from Romania, thirty (30) from Serbia and forty two (42) from Turkey. Furthermore, there were eleven (11) observers, six American military doctors from 30th Medical Brigade/Germany, two from USA, one from Belgium and two from Netherlands, which attended the Congress. A total number of three hundred and forty eight (348) scientific papers from the six member countries of BMMC (Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Turkey), one hundred and seventy two (172) oral and one hundred and seventy six (176) poster presentations were presented. 

Greek National Board hosted the 5th Annual Meeting of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services of BMMC countries. The main topic of the meeting was “Periodical Preventive Health Examination of the Military Personnel”. The 5th BMMC Student Meeting was held in the framework of the Congress on the 9th of June. Three (3) medical students from Greece, two (2) from Romania, two (2) from Turkey and one (1) from Serbia attended the BMMC Student Meeting with eight (8) presentations. 

Two round tables took place: «Causes of secondary hypertension in young age groups of Armed Forces» and «The main zoonotic diseases, threat to public health».
A Hyper-realistic simulation workshop took place during the Congress. The attendance of the workshop allowed participants to make use of different skills for treatment of Massive Bleeding, Airway Injuries, Thoracic Injuries etc. Greek National Board presented the history of BMMC via a video. This practice was highly appreciated and encouraged to be continued.

19th BMMC Congress, Plovdiv (2014)

19th BMMC Congress was held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, between 07 and 10 May 2014. The main topic of the congress was: “Military Medical Means and Capabilities as an Asset for Civil Military Interaction”. One hundred and seventy-three (173) participants, including accompanying persons from the six member countries were present at the Congress. A total number of three hundred and twenty-one (321) scientific papers from six member countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Turkey), one hundred and forty-eight (148) oral and one hundred and seventy-three (173) poster presentations were presented.

Bulgarian National Board hosted the 4th Annual Meeting of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services and Academies of BMMC countries. The main topic of the meeting was “Exchange of military medical personnel (doctors, nurses and students) aiming for materialization within 2015’’. The 4th BMMC Student Meeting was held in the framework of the Congress. In total, fifteen (15) medical students participated (two from Romania; two from Turkey; one from Serbia and ten from Greece).
